Upcoming Electric SUVs in India 2025: The electric-SUV tsunami is finally set to hit Indian shores and it’s not just a trail — 2025 is now looking to be an out-and-out flood. Four notable launches are coming soon, each one of them promising to up the ante when it comes to range, tech and that all-important road presence. Below, we have the lowdown on the Mahindra XEV 7e, Maruti Suzuki e Vitara, Tata Harrier EV, and Tata Sierra EV—what they will be offering, when you can expect them to land and why you should care.
Mahindra XEV 7e
The XEV 7e is essentially the electric twin of the XUV700, albeit with a slicker, more futuristic approach. Oh, and inverted L-shaped LED DRLs, split projector headlamps, and a cabin that’s straight up aped from the XEV 9e—triple screens, dual tone black-and-white theme, et al.
- Battery & Range: 59 kWh (Net) (MIDC) & 79 kWh (Net) (MIDC). In reality, the larger battery should be easily able to better the 500 km mark with a heavy right foot.
- Powertrain: Single-motor RWD only, 231–286 PS and 380 Nm. Upper trims could receive dual-motor AWD for additional punch and grip.
- Features: Multi-zone climate control, panoramic sunroof, electric and ventilated seats, Level 2 ADAS, 7 airbags, 360-degree camera, and premium sound system.
- Launch & Price: Likely to be by the end of 2025 or early 2026; priced between ₹20.9 lakh – ₹30 lakh (ex-showroom).
This is Mahindra’s equivalent to the Tata Safari EV and a direct competitor to the Harrier EV that will arrive soon. If you’re after an electric SUV that delivers in terms of proper premium, but you don’t want to pay out for it, the XEV 7e should be one to keep an eye on.
Maruti Suzuki e Vitara
Maruti’s debut all-electric SUV, the e Vitara is aiming for mass appeal. No outlandish concept bullshit here, just a hardcore design with a tech-filled interior and a focus on real-world usability.
- Battery & Range: Two sizes—49 kWh (346 km WLTP) and 61 kWh (428 km WLTP). Mic 4WD range is more than 500 km, according to Maruti (MIDC) for the larger pack, but in mixed driving expect around 400-450 km.
- Powertrain: Single-motor only, FWD only. 142 bhp (49 kWh) or 172 bhp (61 kWh),170 and 198 lb-ft, respectively. Maximum speed is limited to 150 km/h and 0–100 km/h in less than 9 seconds for the bigger battery.
- Features: 10.25-inch touchscreen, 10.1-inch digital cluster, panoramic sunroof, ventilated seats, wireless charging, Level 2 ADAS, 7 airbags, 360-degree camera, connected car technology.
- Launch & Price: Arrives in showrooms circa September 2025, expected to cost between ₹17 lakh on the lower side and ₹22.5 lakh at the upper end (ex-showroom).
Maruti’s USP? Well-known, tested, next chapters, and a service network across the nation. For many, that’s the closer.

Tata Harrier EV
There’s a new flagship in town, and it’s taking the market quite seriously. The design is very ICE Harrier but with EV touches—blanked grille, aero wheels and a full-width LED light bar.
- Battery & Range: Projected 60-75 kWh pack for 500 km of real world range. Tata isn’t quoting figures just yet, but you can be pretty sure that at least about 500 km is to be expected.
- Powertrain: Dual-motor AWD (QWD in Tata-speak) with a massive 500 Nm of torque. Lower trims likely to use single-motor RWD version.
- Features: Panoramic sunroof, Jack White digital instrument cluster, 12.3-inch touchscreen, vehicle to grid/vehicle systems charging and parking (Summon Mode), V2L, V2V and all the connected techsie wetsies you’d expect.
- Launch & Price: Launching June 3, 2025. Expected price: ₹28-30 lakh (ex-showroom).
If you want structure, substance and an EV SUV you’ll want to take anywhere, the Harrier EV is probably Tata’s best foot forward.
Tata Sierra EV
The Sierra is back and it’s all electric this time. Tata’s blending nostalgia with modernity — boxy proportions, floating roofline, and a cabin that amounts to more of a lounge than a living room.
- Battery & Range: Expected 60 kWh pack, claimed 500 km range. Built on Tata’s new Acti.ev platform, so I would anticipate flexibility on drivetrain (RWD/AWD) as well as decent charging rates.
- Powertrain: Single- and dual-motor choices, and AWD on the top trims. Details are still sketchy, but performance should be similar to that of the Harrier EV.
- Features: Dual digital displays, panoramic sunroof, wireless Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, Level 2 ADAS, six airbags, 360-degree camera, and the option of either a 5-seater or a sumptuous 4-seat lounge.
- Launch & Price: Anticipated by August 2025, priced from ₹25 lakh (ex-showroom approx.)
The Sierra EV is for folk who want to get noticed — old-school cool meets new-age tech.
The Big Picture: Range Is King
If there is one thread that ties all these big new SUVs together, it is range. Every brand is claiming 500 km or more, at least on paper. That’s the new battlefield — nobody wants to be stuck with a half-baked city-only EV. Why? Because if you’re a highway cruiser, a city commuter or just tired of worrying about where you’re going to charge next, this next wave of electric SUVs is finally speaking your language.
The bottom line: 2025 is when India’s mainstream SUV market is scheduled to go electric in earnest. Whether you’re a badge loyalist, a tech freak or simply eager to future-proof your garage, there’s something heading your way. And for once, you won’t need to sacrifice range, features, or style.
