Mercedes-Benz India is ready to give us a special ‘Collector’s Edition’ AMG G 63 on June 12, 2025, and this one’s got a rather Indian twist to it. According to the German luxury carmaker, this limited edition is a testament to India’s vibrant tapestry and its varied terrain – a far cry from their usually euro-centric design philosophy.
What Makes This Edition Special
And the teaser images show a G 63 that looks to be painted in quite a bright orange with silver wheels. Mercedes hasn’t yet said everything, but the company is promising that the Collector’s Edition will be a real homage to Indian culture and geography. The development came from Mercedes-Benz India in cooperation with Mercedes-Benz Research and Development India, so there is likely to have been some serious local input into the design.
So, before you read too much into what might be new under the hood, this is really a visual makeover more than anything. The Collector’s Edition will continue to feature the same thundering 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8-engine roaring 577 bhp and 850 Nm of torque. Power remains down to all four wheels through the 9-speed dual-clutch automatic, so the performance resume is the same.

What Makes This Edition Special
For anyone uninitiated in the G 63’s party trick, though, this is by no means just another luxury SUV. It’s a missile that resembles a brick and can go from 0-100 kmph in just 4.5 seconds, showcasing that it may even survive a zombie apocalypse. Considering the regular G 63 retails for an eye-watering ₹3.64 crore (ex-showroom), you can expect to pay an arm, a leg and maybe some vital organs for this India-inspired Collector’s Edition due to its limited numbers.
And the timing is also interesting. Mercedes recently launched the AMG G 63 Grand Edition for ₹4 crore, limited to 25 units just for the existing Maybach, AMG and S-Class owners. That one had a striking black and gold colour scheme with Kalahari gold highlights – it was bold.
What to Expect
The Collector’s Edition will include some inside information, but we wouldn’t be surprised to see FACT’s list of special features stay pretty much the same. The plain old G 63 already arrives festooned with dual 12.3-inch digital displays, a Burmester sound system, 64-colour ambient lighting and as much leather as you might need to reupholster a small apartment. What the focus will be on, of course, would be exclusive design elements, special badging, and perhaps a few India-specific touches that will come to be known at a later time.
The G-Class has forever been that oddball in the luxury SUV segment. It’s not the roomiest, it’s definitely not the most fuel-efficient, and it drives like a truck because, frankly, it is one. But that’s its charm, of course. If you’re pouring out ink for impulse buyers like myself, someone who is going to wake up on a Thursday and think, “I need a mass-produced army truck,” you have to include something with some modicum of adventure left in it. In a universe of ever squarer, more sanitized luxury cubes, the G 63 is refreshingly uncompromised.
The Bigger Picture
This India-themed addition is the symbol of Mercedes’ increased confidence in Indian luxury market. The very fact that they’re working on region-specific variations is evidence that they’re taking regional preferences seriously rather than just dumping whatever they’ve got on the world. Whether that means design elements that are based on Indian architecture, that based on colours such as our flag or segments that are included of our cultural heritage is still to be seen.
Sight of the inevitable astronomical price that it will command for a limited run in a world where everyone with a spare million is commissioning one-offs, don’t expect much change from ₹4 crore for the Collector’s Edition. And because we know Mercedes’ play with these special editions, it’ll likely be gone before most of us even glimpse one in the flesh.
The launch is scheduled for 12 June. The launch is expected to reveal all of the juicy details on what makes this version solely Indian. For now, we’ll all have to settle for that teasing orange teaser and our imaginations.
